11/07/2024Planning a successful golf day
For many golfers in your society day, they won’t be aware of the admin that’s involved. The first of the admin comes when the group organising starts doing their research in where to play. Afterall, if the day isn’t a success, for whatever reason, you can be sure it’ll be the organisers fault.
Checking society day reviews
Therefore, it’s important you check reviews. Not just of the golf course and the food but the staff too. You want piece of mind that the team organising your day are helpful and can add value to your event – this is something that Gaudet Luce has become known for.
Choosing your food for your group’s golf day
Understanding who your golfers are in the group is vital. We all have those friends who are ‘fussy’ eaters or those that will eat whatever is put in front of them. The food offering can be what makes or breaks your group’s day. From a golf club’s perspective, due to the numbers involved in society day’s, you will be given a choice of one, maybe two, food options.
Furthermore, you have to think about what time you’re teeing off. If it’s too early, will people want breakfast? Too late, will they want lunch or dinner?
From our experience, our advice would always be to keep it simple. However, simple doesn’t need to be bland. Don’t over complicate it by trying to organise food options you would choose when going to a restaurant. Remember, you’re at a golf day!
At Gaudet Luce, our most popular food option on arrival is a bacon or sausage bap. Why? Because they’re easy to eat on the go. And, we’re not shy with how much we put in the bap. Our motto is, whatever we’re going to serve, make sure if we’re eating it, we’d recommend it. Plus, the baps are top quality. Who wants a soggy bap?
Adding something different to your society day
Most golf days consist of a food and drink option on arrival followed by 18 holes. Majority will also include individual prizes for nearest the pin and/or longest drive. All of these days start to have a ‘similar’ feel to them. Why shouldn’t you add something different?
For example, at Gaudet Luce, we’re fortunate to have the Par 3 Hadzor Course. This is used for FootGolf, DiskGolf and normal golf. We’ve previously had societies use this course before their breakfast as a ‘swing loosener’ and to create that bit of ‘banter’ before the main event on the Phoenix Course.
Some driving ranges have technology in their bays. Could you make your warm up competitive? What about a putting competition at those clubs with large practice greens?
Booking your golf society day
In today’s online world, we as customers, notice the difference between a simple purchase and something that’s over complicated. Just think how easy it is to buy something off Amazon.
Obviously, we’d love for the booking process or your golf day to be that straightforward, but there are more variables. Therefore, it is our job at the golf club, to try and make it as easy as possible for you – we know you’ve got enough of a headache with trying to organise your group too.
Many golf clubs do charge a per person deposit amount. However, we know what you’re thinking. “I don’t know my numbers or what if they change”. Therefore, at Gaudet Luce, we charge a flat deposit rate. Then ask for final confirmation of numbers 7 days before your society day to organise food.
TOP TIP! For those who want to play in your day, ask for an extra £5/10 on top of what the golf club is charging to cover the dropouts. The organiser is ALWAYS the one who is usually stung for this. If by a miracle you don’t have any dropouts, this can then go towards drinks or prizes afterwards.
Finding a golf course right for your group
Golf is hard enough without then playing a golf course which is extremely difficult. Every golfer in your group should be able to get around the course without feeling ‘beat up’ by the end of it. Whilst you are there to play golf, the day will be a lot more enjoyable for everyone if they’re also having a good round.
You should also find out if the golf club has plenty of buggies, trollies and refreshments for the round. The more tired you get, the worse your golf is. So it’s important you stay feeling fresh for as long as possible.
