Whether you are an experienced and regular golfer, have only recently taken up the game, joined from another club or Gaudet is your first club, we are really pleased that you have chosen to join us here at Gaudet Luce.
The aim of our Gents Section is to provide our members with a welcoming and social environment in which to enjoy golf.
This page will provide you with useful and important information that should help you join the section and enter the various competitions that we run. It includes information about the Gents Section, details of our Gents competitions and the Gents Teams.
Gaudet Luce has Gents who play solely for fun, enjoying socialising with other Gents but also those who regularly represent Gaudet Luce in League fixtures, plus individual and team competitions
We hope that you will find being a member of the Gents Section both rewarding and enjoyable and most importantly have loads of fun!

Entry into competitions is separate from the tee time booking system on the Gaudet Luce website.
The Gents section run competitions for members throughout the year and also take part in a number of mixed ‘Fun’ competitions. Dates for the competitions and the overall club diary can be found on the Gaudet Luce website by following the link to the diary below.
Entry for these competitions is managed via the Club Systems HowDidIDo facility and will require members wishing to enter competitions to register with www.howdidido.com or use the PSI terminal in the clubhouse. Members will need to be preloaded for handicap management into the Club Systems application that we use.
In order for the section to communicate effectively with our members, we ask that email details are provided for us to create a record in Club Systems that enable us to email from the system direct to members, provide updates on competitions and results etc.
Gents Competition Entry Procedures for Non-Club V1 Computer System Competitions
Some competitions are “Fun” competitions and are not entered onto the Computer System-entry to these can be made as follows:
• Ladies Competition Secretary will post a notice and entry sheet on the ladies notice board
• For Club Mixed Fun Competitions, the entry sheet will be on the Captain’s Noticeboard
• Ladies enter competition by adding name to entry sheet on notice board
• Competition Secretary takes sheet down, completes the draw, and issues start times to players via email. Members can also view their start times on the notice board
On Day of Competition
• Players report to pro-shop to register and pay entry fee for competition
• On completion of round players place their cards in the white box or hand to competition secretary on the day
• After competition is complete and all cards returned, the competitions secretary will check the cards, close the competition and publish results
• Ladies can view results on the section notice board
• Winners prize money will be allocated by the Club Treasurer as above
If a Player wishes to cancel out of a Competition
• Before the draw has been posted: cross name off sheet
• After the draw has been posted but before day of comp: contact Ladies comps secretary as above
• On day of competition: Contact the Golf Shop ASAP on 01905 796375, if office is closed please leave a message or contact the Competition secretary
This includes all competitions played at outside venues, including other clubs to which you may belong, County competitions, Open and National competitions.
You are responsible for ensuring your score is returned to your Home Club (i.e. the club which holds your handicap).
Handicap Qualifying Competitions:
The host club will send the results electronically to your home club via the CDH system. This can occasionally take a couple of days so it is advisable to check with your handicap or competition secretary at your home club that they have received the results and your handicap has been adjusted accordingly.
– You are obliged to return competitive away scores to your Home Club (your original score card, a copy, or a photo)
– This includes all singles, team events, Am-Am, 4 Ball Betterball. Exceptions are Texas Scramble; Foursomes and Greensomes.
– Return your scores to the Handicap secretary. These will not directly affect your handicap but will be used as evidence of ability in the Annual Review.
Gents Section Competitions & Entry Rules
G.1 MEDALS AND STABLEFORDS
G.1.1 Monthly Medals And Stablefords
Members should use the online HDID site or PSI terminal in the clubhouse to pre-book entry to the competitions
Monthly medal and Stableford qualifiers are played in divisions dependant on the number of players entered:
Division 1 – Up to 12 competition handicap
Division 2 – 13 to 18 competition handicap
Division 3 – 19 to 30 competition handicap
Winners and Runners Up in each division will receive payouts and Winners of each division will be entered into the Gents Champion of Champions.
If any division as above has fewer than 10 players entered at the time of the start sheet being sent out then the competition will revert to two divisions:
Division 1 Scratch to 14 competition handicap
Division 2 15 to 30 competition handicap
Winners, Runners Up and 3rd place in each division will receive payouts and Winners of each division will be entered into the Gents Champion of Champions.
G.1.2 Mid Week Medal & Stableford Qualifiers
Full handicap, single division.
Players may enter on the day of play providing a tee time is available. Payment and entry must be made prior to start of round in the Pro shop. Players must play with at least one other competitor in the competition. Scorecards must be returned to the designated place set by the Competitions Committee.
Midweek competitions are considered non-qualifying for Trophy and the Champion of Champions competitions unless the entry numbers exceed 9 on any given day.
G.2 TROPHY COMPETITIONS
Players must have played in a minimum of 3 Gents’ Qualifiers at Gaudet Luce during the previous 12 months, in order to be eligible to win a Trophy competition.
G.2.1 Committee Trophy
Medal full handicap (scratch to 14) played in conjunction with the Committee Bowl. Prizes will be awarded for the best 4 nett scores.
G.2.2 Committee Bowl
Medal competition, full handicap, played in conjunction with the Committee Trophy. Open to all players with handicaps between 15 and 28. Prizes will be awarded to the best 4 nett scores.
G.2.3 Members Trophy
Stableford full handicap (scratch to 28) competition. Prizes awarded to best 4 nett scores.
G.2.4 Allen Gears Trophy
Stableford full handicap (scratch to 28). Prizes will be awarded for the best 4 nett scores.
G.2.5 Club Championship
36 hole Medal full handicap (scratch to 28) competition over one or two days to be determined by the Committee. The best combined gross score (Rounds 1 & 2) will be declared Club Champion Gross and receive the Club Champion Gross Trophy. The best combined nett score (Rounds 1 & 2) will be declared Club Champion Nett. Prizes will be awarded for Club Champion Gross and top 5 best 36 hole nett scores. This competition is open to HOME members only.
G.2.6 Fernihough Memorial
Full handicap Bogey comp with prizes for best 4 nett scores.
G.2.7 Flamefighter Flag With EWBGA
Full handicap flag competition.
G.2.8 Champion of Champions
Medal full handicap event.
This is a closed competition and members must qualify for entry. Entry is by invitation to all those players who win in either division in a qualifying competition between 1st September and 31st August. In the event that a division winner has already qualified then the invitation will go to the second-placed for that division in the competition.
The event is free to enter.
G.3 PAIRS EVENTS and SUMMER KNOCKOUTS
G.3.1 Foursomes Stableford
Medal foursomes 1/2 combined full handicap. Prizes are paid to the 3 best nett scores.
G.3.2 Chairman’s Pairs KO Trophy
Matchplay 90% handicap difference. Prizes down to losing semi-finalists.
G.3.3 President’s Singles KO Cup
Matchplay will be full handicap difference. Prizes down to losing semi-finalists in each competition.
G.3.4 Captain’s Greensomes KO Trophy
Matchplay full difference of Greensomes handicap. Handicap allowances for Greensomes are 0.6 x the lower handicap plus 0.4 x the higher handicap. Prizes down to losing semi-finalists.
G.3.5 Scratch Cup
Matchplay with all players off scratch. Prizes for Winner and Runner up.
G.4 WINTER LEAGUE
The Winter League will be a Pairs Better Ball Stableford league format with an initial league stage followed by knockout rounds for those that qualify. Full details will be published prior to the start. Prizes down to losing semi-finalists.
G.5 GENTS INVITATION
Member + Guest Better Ball Medal with 90% handicap allowance played off White competition tees. (Competition Handicaps required). Members must have Phoenix Course membership and Guests must not be Gaudet Luce Members in any category.
G.6 PRESENTATION EVENING
The season is concluded with a presentation evening. All those who have won a Trophy, Winter League or Summer knockouts are presented with the trophy.
